~ Kickoff ~

Welcome.

You have arrived at the most authentic site about professional football. This site is all encompassing in its no nonsense, to-the-point, "real" analysis of the teams, players, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and of the league itself.

This site is not a fantasy site, nor a stat site, nor a betting site, nor is it a site that recaps what we as fans have seen and heard over and over, ad nauseam, watching the highlights and listening to the radio all week.

Our views on this site will be astute, concise, and maybe you'll find them insightful.

You will notice that this site is quite simple in its design. This is so, not because of a lack of imagination or web design talent, but rather because of a disdain for the clutter found on a lot of other sites. This site focuses on content rather than graphics. There are a few flashing lights and animations for those who feel they are a requirement on a web site.

So after you've read it and reread it, let us know your opinion about anything we've said here or anything else you'd like to express regarding the great game of football. Contact us at: blitz@5thdownreport.net. Thank you and enjoy.

This site will be updated weekly, primarily on Wednesdays.

~ Touchdown ~

Around the League

AFC East
Bills Draft Grade: B (Filled defensive needs and WR James Hardy (Indiana) will be a big time player)
Dolphins Draft Grade: B (They still need offensive weaponry)
Jets Draft Grade: C (Got a pass rusher and a corner but why a TE at #2?)
Patriots Draft Grade: B (Picked up 3 LBs and 2 CBs)
AFC South
Colts Draft Grade: C (Drafted 3 centers?)
Jaguars Draft Grade: C (Went 4 out of 5 picks on D. Going to need more offensive firepower)
Texans Draft Grade: B (Filled needs at CB, S, and OL)
Titans Draft Grade: D (Need to get more security and more weaponry for Vince Young)
AFC North
Bengals Draft Grade: C (Filled needs on D as well as 3 WRs in case Chad decides not to play)
Browns Draft Grade: D (No picks in the first 3 rounds, but they do go 3 out of 5 on D)
Ravens Draft Grade: C (A lot of picks, will QB Joe Flacco (Delaware) be another Kyle Boller?)
Steelers Draft Grade: D (RB and WR at #1 and #2? Got OL help with one pick but will that be enough?)
AFC West
Broncos Draft Grade: B (Got OL help and a WR on O and a CB, S, DT, and LB on D)
Chargers Draft Grade: D (Didn't add much. Still need WR help)
Chiefs Draft Grade: B (Needed help everywhere and basically got it with 12 picks. Went for 8 on D including Glenn Dorsey (LSU) at DT)
Raiders Draft Grade: B (Got Darren McFadden (Arkansas) at RB and filled other needs at WR, CB, and DL. But got no OL help)
NFC East
Cowboys Draft Grade: D (Got 2 CBs but no OL help. Is Felix Jones (Arkansas) the answer at RB?)
Eagles Draft Grade: D (Went defensive with 6 of 10 picks. Will WR DeSean Jackson (California) be the savior at WR or just another not-much?)
Giants Draft Grade: A (Filled all needs and then some. Only question is that WR Mario Manningham (Michigan) may not be the real deal)
Redskins Draft Grade: B (Picked up 2 WRs, a TE, QB, and some OL help)
NFC South
Buccaneers Draft Grade: A (Another team to fill all needs (CB, WR, OG, and DT). As well as a QB, RB, and LB)
Falcons Draft Grade: B (Depending on the play of Matt Ryan (Boston College), grade could be an A or an F. Filled needs at OL, LB, CB, S, and TE (we'll see))
Panthers Draft Grade: C (Still need a great pass rusher)
Saints Draft Grade: D (Went heavy on defense. Hopefully #7 pick WR Adrian Arrington (Michigan) will be as good as their other late-picked receivers)
NFC North
Bears Draft Grade: B (Another team with 12 picks. Went 7 on offense. Will #2 pick RB Matt Forte (Tulane) be good enough to replace the bust(ed) Cedric Benson?)
Lions Draft Grade: D (Added OL help but remember, as of right now, Kitna is still the QB)
Packers Draft Grade: B (7 of 9 picks go towards the offense. And they pick up a CB at #3)
Vikings Draft Grade: D (With only 5 picks they do get OL and DL help, but QB John David Booty (USC) won't be the answer)
NFC West
Cardinals Draft Grade: B (Picked a good CB at #1, got 3 DTs, and some OL help)
49ers Draft Grade: C (Got OL help and a pass rusher late)
Rams Draft Grade: C (Got 3 WRs and 3 pass rusher as well as OL help)
Seahawks Draft Grade: D (Picked up a TE at #2 but did not adequately address defensive needs)

RE: Draft Analysts

How foolish and ridiculous do some of these draft analysts sound? Folks, no one has a crystal ball. No one could predict the future. Why networks feel we need so-called "high powered experts" to talk on and on about how good or how bad a player is going to play in the coming years is beyond us. Are you telling us that because a player had a good time in the 40 and can vertical leap higher than anyone and can slap blocking dummies out of the way faster than the next person, that he's going to be a great NFL player? Give us a break.
