~ Kickoff ~

Welcome.

You have arrived at the most authentic site about professional football. This site is all encompassing in its no nonsense, to-the-point, "real" analysis of the teams, players, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and of the league itself.

This site is not a fantasy site, nor a stat site, nor a betting site, nor is it a site that recaps what we as fans have seen and heard over and over, ad nauseam, watching the highlights and listening to the radio all week.

Our views on this site will be astute, concise, and maybe you'll find them insightful.

You will notice that this site is quite simple in its design. This is so, not because of a lack of imagination or web design talent, but rather because of a disdain for the clutter found on a lot of other sites. This site focuses on content rather than graphics. There are a few flashing lights and animations for those who feel they are a requirement on a web site.

So after you've read it and reread it, let us know your opinion about anything we've said here or anything else you'd like to express regarding the great game of football. Contact us at: blitz@5thdownreport.net. Thank you and enjoy.

This site will be updated weekly, primarily on Wednesdays.

~ Touchdown ~

Around the League

AFC East
Bills This team could be a playoff team soon. Trent Edwards looks like he can play
Dolphins How will Tuna function in a sea of Dolphins
Jets We need to see big things happen from the Jets in the offseason, big things
Patriots Calm and cool as they await their 17th victory
AFC South
Colts 2 questions: will Marvin Harrison be ready to play and if not will the Colts be able to overcome that?
Jaguars Definitely a better team than the Steelers. Now just have to go out and prove it
Texans Finish 8-8 but will they rise above or sink below .500 in the coming season... can't tell
Titans Better hope Vince Young is able to play. Kerry Collins... yikes
AFC North
Bengals A terrible year. This team needs wholesale changes
Browns Oh so close. Need to get better on D
Ravens The most underachieving team this year. Glad to see that arrogant Billick gone
Steelers The only thing good this weekend for the Steelers is that they'll be in Pittsburgh
AFC West
Broncos This team should be OK and bounce back next season to make the playoffs
Chargers Get a break with Tennessee coming in, should make easy work of the sluggish Titans
Chiefs Who ever said that Herm Edwards was a good coach?
Raiders Now that Russell has wasted one year already, will next season be another trial year for him and another wasted season?
NFC East
Cowboys Should be well rested and ready to go in 2 weeks
Eagles Will McNabb be back, will Reid be back, the only thing Eagle fans should be concerned about is... will Westbrook be back
Giants Played very good against the Pats. They must maintain that intensity against the Bucs, not play down to their level
Redskins Riding on emotion and a 12 year "rookie" QB. Wouldn't be suprised if they come out of Seattle with a victory
NFC South
Buccaneers The Bucs are a totally different team when Garcia is at QB. His playoff experience may be enough to lead them over the unpredictable Giants
Falcons A terrible year ends with a Chris Redman-led victory
Panthers Another disappointing season. Will Jon Fox survive?
Saints Never overcame their 0-4 start, even when they were 4-4
NFC North
Bears This team seems like they're a good team but they need a QB, case closed
Lions Kitna guaranteed 10 wins... he needs to shut his mouth
Packers Better hope Favre doesn't try to win playoff games all by himself
Vikings If you're a Viking fan, you have to question Childress' playcalling
NFC West
Cardinals If Leinart is the real deal this team should be pretty good starting now
49ers A lost year for this team that had some promise
Rams Was it worth signing Bulger long term?
Seahawks Going to have to play like the good Seahawk team or the Skins will pick them off

~ Extra Point ~

Happy New Year!

On the Patriots first TD, a pass from Tom Brady to Randy Moss, a slew of records were achieved, including Brady and Moss tying the all-time lead for TD passes and TD receptions in a season. Also the Pats set a record for the most points scored in a season. Moss was flagged for "excessive celebration". Are you kidding? What did he do, tear the goalpost down?

Why does NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell still try to tell fans that the NFL Network is for them? Folks, they took several games that were going to be on free TV on Sunday and moved them to Thursday or Saturday night on a channel you have to pay for. What part are we missing here?

Could someone tell us why NBC sideline reporter Andrea Kramer has a job? Who is throwing her a bone and why? Take her salary and donate it to hurricane Katrina victims or some other worthwhile cause.

We don't usually give out real estate data here but we've been informed that Mike Vick's home in Surry, Virginia, the home of his insane dog fighting business, is for sale for a relatively modest $1.1 million. Folks, it comes with 15 acres of land.

Perfection is not 16-0, it's 19-0.

The Sunday Night announcing crew of Al Michaels and John Madden have really become a poor listen. Madden's schtick sounds so bored and ridiculous coming from a 61 year man.

Is everyone as tired of Tony Siragusa as we are?

Of all the talking heads on all the different shows about the NFL, the person who seems to be the most logical is Mike Ditka.

It's a shame that we have to accept poor officiating as the norm these days.

~ Fumble ~

RE: NBC Football Night in America

Why did NBC get rid of Pink to sing their opening theme song in favor of Faith Hill? The NFL is supposed to be about toughness and what's tougher than a woman with tree trunk limbs, a buzzcut, and a pierced nose? Who's next, Carrie Underwood?

RE: BCS Championship Game

LSU over Ohio State

P.S. We like Rutgers over Ball State in the International Bowl
