~ Kickoff ~

Welcome.

You have arrived at the most authentic site about professional football. This site is all encompassing in its no nonsense, to-the-point, "real" analysis of the teams, players, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and of the league itself.

This site is not a fantasy site, nor a stat site, nor a betting site, nor is it a site that recaps what we as fans have seen and heard over and over, ad nauseam, watching the highlights and listening to the radio all week.

Our views on this site will be astute, concise, and maybe you'll find them insightful.

You will notice that this site is quite simple in its design. This is so, not because of a lack of imagination or web design talent, but rather because of a disdain for the clutter found on a lot of other sites. This site focuses on content rather than graphics. There are a few flashing lights and animations for those who feel they are a requirement on a web site.

So after you've read it and reread it, let us know your opinion about anything we've said here or anything else you'd like to express regarding the great game of football. Contact us at: blitz@5thdownreport.net. Thank you and enjoy.

This site will be updated weekly, primarily on Wednesdays.

~ Touchdown ~

Around the League

AFC East
Bills Three-way battle for last place in AFC East starts this weekend against Baltimore
Dolphins 0-6 meets 6-0 in Miami. Hello 0-7
Jets Whether Mangini wants to admit it or not and whether it happens this weekend or in November or December... the Chad Pennington era is over
Patriots This team clearly won't play a meaningful game until January
AFC South
Colts Tough game at Jacksonville Monday night. (6-0, not so fast)
Jaguars Playing better than most thought
Texans Got to get healthy and got to get more from their running game
Titans Titan fans better hope Vince Young gets healthy because, trust us, Kerry Collins will start throwing those INTs
AFC North
Bengals This team has to learn how to play defense
Browns Who would have thought the Browns would be 3-3 after 6 games?
Ravens Winning ugly... but still winning
Steelers When this team plays good, they're a great team
AFC West
Broncos The clock is ticking for Mike Shanahan
Chargers Looks like it's time for the L.T.-led Chargers to ascend to the top of the AFC West
Chiefs Smoke and mirrors but they're getting it done... for now
Raiders When does JaMarcus Russell get his shot?
NFC East
Cowboys Not the best team in the NFL, but still the best in the NFC
Eagles If Brian Westbrook plays, this team could win some games
Giants Big Blue is rolling and are going to be tough down the stretch
Redskins A good team for the NFC, but must play for 60 minutes. And can Clinton Portis stay on the field already?
NFC South
Buccaneers Quietly winning games with Jeff Garcia at the controls
Falcons Why not just keep handing the ball to Jerious Norwood?
Panthers Can you imagine the Panthers have a 43-year-old quarterback and we're supposed to take them serious?
Saints Finally play a decent game
NFC North
Bears So how's the benching of Rex Grossman going?
Lions Bye week over, the Lions must now show if they're for real
Packers Still winning, but Favre is starting to throw those INTs he's not so famous for
Vikings Adrian Peterson: 20 carries, 224 yards, 3 TDs. If only the Viks had a defense
NFC West
Cardinals Edgerrin James is going to have to step it up and carry this team like an elite back should
49ers Better hope Alex Smith gets healthy
Rams Maybe Gus Frerotte should headbutt some more walls
Seahawks This team is so overrated, from the QB, to the RB, to the D, to the head coach

~ Extra Point ~

If Brandon Jacobs of the Giants is supposed to be an every down back, why is he seemingly out after every other play?
And staying on the Giants, why do the TV analysts keep featuring Michael Strahan like he's a main player in the game? Folks, he's playing out his final season for one final payday, period. He is by no means a factor in any scheme during the game.

Tom Brady is on pace to throw 56 touchdown passes this season.

We see Vinny Testeverde knows the Carolina game plan already. Throw the ball to Steve Smith.

We seen the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson introduction before the Giants/Falcons game Monday Night. Does Vince McMahon of the WWE still get 25% of whatever he makes?

When did 2nd and long become a running down?

Ex-Giant George Martin began a cross country walk to raise money for ailing World Trade Center rescue and recovery workers. He began the walk at the George Washington Bridge and hopes to finish at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in 4 months. His goal is to raise $10,000,000 with his walk. Good luck to him on his benevolent journey.

~ Fumble ~

RE: CBS Television

During the Cowboys/Patriots game on CBS television Sunday, one of the astronomical amount of commercial breaks was a promo for a TV program airing on CBS, Monday night, starring an admitted cocaine user and whore frequenter. In the promo, that someone in CBS chose to use at about 5 PM on a Sunday afternoon, during a family-friendly football game was one with a man walking around with clothespins on his nipples.

Wasn't it just a few short years ago that CBS' brass was outraged by the Janet Jackson flap? Who are these bums, these glorified sleeze merchants kidding?

And we thought it was all Howard Stern's fault.
