~ Kickoff ~

Welcome.

You have arrived at the most authentic site about professional football. This site is all encompassing in its no nonsense, to-the-point, "real" analysis of the teams, players, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and of the league itself.

This site is not a fantasy site, nor a stat site, nor a betting site, nor is it a site that recaps what we as fans have seen and heard over and over, ad nauseam, watching the highlights and listening to the radio all week.

Our views on this site will be astute, concise, and maybe you'll find them insightful.

You will notice that this site is quite simple in its design. This is so, not because of a lack of imagination or web design talent, but rather because of a disdain for the clutter found on a lot of other sites. This site focuses on content rather than graphics. There are a few flashing lights and animations for those who feel they are a requirement on a web site.

So after you've read it and reread it, let us know your opinion about anything we've said here or anything else you'd like to express regarding the great game of football. Contact us at: blitz@5thdownreport.net. Thank you and enjoy.

This site will be updated weekly, primarily on Wednesdays.

~ Touchdown ~

Around the League

AFC East
Bills 2 defensive TDs and a kickoff return for 1. Where's the offense?
Dolphins We think this team could go 0-16
Jets You can strip the title "Mangenius" from Mangini. Folks, this is a bad team
Patriots Oh no, Randy Moss 0 TDs. What's up?
AFC South
Colts Guarantee you they won't win this weekend
Jaguars Good balance of running and passing and solid D equals another win for the Jags
Texans Kris Brown hits 5 FGs including two 54 yarders and a 57 yarder to win it at the end
Titans Were able to overcome 5 turnovers to win
AFC North
Bengals Hey guys, let's concern ourselves with playing football and not dancing
Browns This team's got some game. They should be at .500 this weekend
Ravens Might be time for McNair to hit the bench
Steelers When this team plays good, they're a great team
AFC West
Broncos What happened to the Denver D?
Chargers San Diego returns from the dead to paste 41 points on Denver, in Denver
Chiefs Folks, when you have a back like Larry Johnson and he rushes for only 12 yards on 9 carries, you won't win
Raiders Who's going to be QB for this decent team
NFC East
Cowboys Romo throws 5 INTs and fumbles once, then gets his team in position to kick the winning field goal at the end. He's the real deal
Eagles Are Andy Reid's days numbered?
Giants Defense looks like it's ready to play. These guys are set to win some games now
Redskins With Moss out and Randle El out by halftime, the Skins still put up 34 points and get the victory
NFC South
Buccaneers Only 17 yards rushing. That won't get it done against anybody
Falcons Let's end the Joey Harrington experiment
Panthers Welcome back "Mr. Interception" Vinny T
Saints This team was 10-6 last year. They aren't just having a bad year, they're a bad team
NFC North
Bears Is Cedric Benson the man... averaging 2.4 yards per carry won't get it done
Lions You live with Kitna, you die with Kitna. And you'll die more than you live with him
Packers There's the Brett Favre we know, throwing those ridiculous underhand passes. We knew the unbeaten season wouldn't last too much longer
Vikings 1-3, going on the road to Chicago then Dallas. It's going to be a tough road
NFC West
Cardinals Looks like Warner is back in the driver's seat
49ers Not ready for prime time
Rams Rutgers grad Brian Leonard: 18 carries, 102 yards, unfortunately his QB is Gus Frerotte so you know the results
Seahawks When they're running game isn't working (Alexander: 11 carries, 25 yards) Hasselbeck must play better

~ Extra Point ~

Why is everyone crediting Mike Shanahan for that Bush League play where he calls timeout right before the kicker kicks the ball? It's been done thousands of times before. The so-called "ice the kicker" play. How did Shanahan's timeout cause Janikowski to miss his second kick? And how did Kiffin's timeout cause Dawson to miss his second kick?
Secondly, why do people think there's something wrong with it? If you have timeouts left you could use them whenever you want.

Is there a difference in challenging a spot or if the offense got the first down? We ask because the Packers challenged a spot on a first down spot and really "won" because the ball was moved back but "lost" because it was still enough for the first down. Green Bay lost a timeout.

Did you happen to see Trent Dilfer's reaction after he threw a 23 yard TD pass to Arnaz Battle midway through the 3rd quarter Sunday against the Ravens? He was pumping his fists and gyrating and his face was as red a New Jersey beet. Trent, act like you been there before. In fact you have, you won a Super Bowl remember?

What is all this Futbol Americano business? If the NFL wants to appeal to Latin fans, that's fine, but why are there commercials on American TV, during the games, in Spanish? We guess the commercials are trying to appeal to Latin viewers to watch Futbol Americano.

When did 2nd and long become a running down?

Ex-Giant George Martin began a cross country walk to raise money for ailing World Trade Center rescue and recovery workers. He began the walk at the George Washington Bridge and hopes to finish at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in 4 months. His goal is to raise $10,000,000 with his walk. Good luck to him on his benevolent journey.

~ Fumble ~

RE: Pacman Jones

It was reported this past week that Adam "Pacman" Jones feels that he's "done" enough to be reinstated into the NFL. Is he kidding? What's he done? Wasn't he involved in a shooting in Las Vegas? This dude needs to cool his heels. Besides, what's TNA Wrestling going to do without him. We hear he's half of the TNA Tag Team champions.
