~ Kickoff ~

Welcome.

You have arrived at the most authentic site about professional football. This site is all encompassing in its no nonsense, to-the-point, "real" analysis of the teams, players, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and of the league itself.

This site is not a fantasy site, nor a stat site, nor a betting site, nor is it a site that recaps what we as fans have seen and heard over and over, ad nauseam, watching the highlights and listening to the radio all week.

Our views on this site will be astute, concise, and maybe you'll find them insightful.

You will notice that this site is quite simple in its design. This is so, not because of a lack of imagination or web design talent, but rather because of a disdain for the clutter found on a lot of other sites. This site focuses on content rather than graphics. There are a few flashing lights and animations for those who feel they are a requirement on a web site.

So after you've read it and reread it, let us know your opinion about anything we've said here or anything else you'd like to express regarding the great game of football. Contact us at: blitz@5thdownreport.net. Thank you and enjoy.

This site will be updated weekly, primarily on Wednesdays.

~ Touchdown ~

Around the League

AFC East
Bills Playing good football right now. Go to Miami this Sunday... should be 5-4
Dolphins Is Cleo Lemon the future of this team?
Jets As promising as last year's team was, next year's team will probably have to be totally rebuilt
Patriots Down by 10 with 9 minutes to go, the Pats calmly pull out a 4 point victory over the good Colts
AFC South
Colts The Pats haven't heard the end of the Colts just yet
Jaguars QB Gray throws for 350 yards, but 3 INTs doom the stagnant Jags
Texans Must of been something in the air for RBs. Even Ron Dayne rushed for 122 yards. If the Texans can get this type of production from Dayne every game, maybe they could win some more games
Titans Although 6-2, the Titans have to get more out of Young or they'll go nowhere come January
AFC North
Bengals No rushing game kills this team
Browns Beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh this Sunday, and the Browns are making the playoffs
Ravens Folks, this team is not a good team by a longshot
Steelers Steeler fans better hope Big Ben's injury isn't anything serious
AFC West
Broncos Can anyone believe how bad this team is?
Chargers We can't figure this team out
Chiefs With Larry Johnson out, will Priest Holmes be the answer?
Raiders When is JaMarcus Russell going to get his chance?
NFC East
Cowboys Beat the Giants in New Jersey this Sunday, and the 'Boys are the best team in the NFC. (No, we didn't forget about the Packers)
Eagles Could you believe some "experts" thought the Eagles were going to make it to the Super Bowl?
Giants Once a doormat, now poised to be the best team in the NFC
Redskins If Portis runs the way he did Sunday, the Redskins could be a lot better (Of course his 196 yards were against the Jets)
NFC South
Buccaneers The Bucs eke out another lowly win to stay atop the NFC South
Falcons Warrick Dunn finally has a 100 yard rushing game and the Falcons get their second win
Panthers Throw the ball to Steve Smith
Saints Brees is ready to lead the Saints to the top of the NFC South
NFC North
Bears Who will start at QB coming off the bye at 3-5?
Lions We'll ask it again, is Detroit really 6-2 good? With the Cards up this weekend, do we hear 7-2?
Packers Who (besides us) said that the Gunslinger was done?
Vikings Adrian Peterson rushes for 296 yards and sets a single game rushing record. Will it be enough to overcome the poor play of the rest of the team?
NFC West
Cardinals Edgerrin James (9-15 yards), Kurt Warner (2 INTs), where are the Cards going?
49ers After some promising times, the 49ers are sinking like a stone
Rams 0-8, the bye week couldn't have come at a better time
Seahawks Seattle will win the NFC West by default

~ Extra Point ~

The game of the week wasn't Colts/Pats, but was Browns/Seahawks.

And speaking of the Browns, is the old Jamal Lewis back? He had 4 TDs in the game, but had only 37 yards rushing on 20 carries. And one more thing on the surging Browns, as good a Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are, they do drop some key passes that hit them right in the hands.

Seattle's Shaun Alexander sure seems like a soft player.

Hate to say this because he was a great tough, tough player, but Steve McNair is done.

Andy Reid should retire and deal with life. We mean - your sons being drug addicts and in jail should be more important than whether the Giants are going to play a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense against you.

Has anybody's worth fell more this season than Mangenius'?

The fact that Vinny Testeverde is playing QB today is a blemish on the NFL.

Al Michaels is starting to sound as ridiculous as Phil Simms on plays that are being challenged.

~ Fumble ~

RE: Football Night in America

Sunday night's Football Night in America on NBC is bad, really bad. We weren't fans of Chris "I'm not shtick" Berman on ESPN, but we long for his and Tom Jackson's show. Does Bob Costas, Keith Olbermann, and Chris Collinsworth think they're comediens? Do they really think they're funny? Guys, you are over 50, or close to it, stop giggling after every pointless thing you say like little school girls. None of you are funny. Why not just show highlights of the many games that were played during the day and give informative updates of the games still in progress? It's hard to believe that Tiki left football to offer so little on this ridiculous production. Furthermore, Collinsworth and Olbermann have faces meant for radio.

And while we're at it, that stunt NBC pulled Sunday night with turning the lights off inside the studio, was probably the dumbest thing on TV since that gay guy won the first Survivor.

RE: The Fabulous Moohlah

We here at The 5th Down Report were sadden by the news of the passing of Lillian Ellison, better known as "The Fabulous Moohlah". She was professional wrestling woman's champion for decades and an icon in the sports entertainment industry. The Fabulous Moohlah, dead this week, at the age of 84.

     - Broncos lose and at 3-6 could be done in the tough AFC

     - A Brown victory and they're tied for first place
     - Steelers win and they distance themselves in the AFC North race
