~ Kickoff ~

Welcome.

You have arrived at the most authentic site about professional football. This site is all encompassing in its no nonsense, to-the-point, "real" analysis of the teams, players, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and of the league itself.

This site is not a fantasy site, nor a stat site, nor a betting site, nor is it a site that recaps what we as fans have seen and heard over and over, ad nauseam, watching the highlights and listening to the radio all week.

Our views on this site will be astute, concise, and maybe you'll find them insightful.

You will notice that this site is quite simple in its design. This is so, not because of a lack of imagination or web design talent, but rather because of a disdain for the clutter found on a lot of other sites. This site focuses on content rather than graphics. There are a few flashing lights and animations for those who feel they are a requirement on a web site.

So after you've read it and reread it, let us know your opinion about anything we've said here or anything else you'd like to express regarding the great game of football. Contact us at: blitz@5thdownreport.net. Thank you and enjoy.

This site will be updated weekly, primarily on Wednesdays.

Giants WORLD CHAMPIONS!

Never underestimate the heart of champions! After the Week 12 disaster against the Vikings, we here at The 5th Down Report pronounced Eli as a QB incapable of winning a Super Bowl. Furthermore, we claimed he would never be even a very good QB. We also took the opportunity to denounce the entire team saying that they are "so far from a QB away from a good team." Fast forward 8 weeks, and Eli and his Giant teammates are Super Bowl champions. Folks, we're not in the locker room, we don't know what truely went on with this team or any team. But as far as Eli is concerned, we were dead wrong. He is a very good QB, a leader, and a champion. And we couldn't be happier for him and the Giants who nobody gave a shot to win.

Redskins #21 pick in 2008 draft
NFC South
Buccaneers #20 pick in 2008 draft
Falcons Either #3, #4, or #5 pick in 2008 draft (subject to coin flip between Chiefs, Raiders, and Falcons)

Seahawks #25 pick in 2008 draft

~ Extra Point ~

Although not a great game for 3 quarters, the performance by both teams in the 4th quarter will cause this Super Bowl to be ranked among the best.

The Eli 32 yard pass to David Tyree, which he caught with the aid of his helmet with Rodney Harrison draped all over him, will definitely go down as the single greatest play in Super Bowl history. In what some would say was the greatest drive in Super Bowl history. (Yeah, we remember Montana to Taylor.)

Keep in mind in the Patriots' previous Super Bowl wins, Brady only had to lead them to field goals to win the game (they were tied). If fact in the Rams Super Bowl, legendary announcer John Madden was saying that Brady should just take a knee and go into overtime.

Did Vrabel and Bruschi play? We don't recall hearing their names mentioned much.

The whole atmosphere that the NFL creates around the Super Bowl really started to look like a WWE event.

We bet Tiki is glad he's reporting on chicken recipes in Iowa on morning TV.

On the adoption front, we guess it was Archie who adopted Peyton and Eli.

Perfection is not 16-0, it's 19-0 (no truer words were ever written).

~ Fumble ~

RE: Bill Belichick

Look, we don't have a problem with Belichick's terse statements (we made some plays, they made some plays, etc). If that's his approach to football, then so be it. It certainly has worked pretty well. However, with him running on to the field, essentially to shake Tom Coughlin's hand, with time still on the clock was inexcusable. He knows football, he knows the final play has to be played. That showed him to be a classless person and a sore loser.

RE: Johan Santana to Mets

It was reported this week that the Mets signed former Twin pitcher Johan Santana. We've heard him billed as the greatest pitcher in baseball today. A quick check of his stats showed him to be 15-13 last season. Wow, great doesn't mean what it used to we guess. Where have you gone Bob Gibson?
