THE 5TH DOWN REPORT

Previous Reports

Week 4:

Fumble

The entire sunday night ESPN package. Announcers, sideline reporter, commercials, and ridiculous graphics after every play.

Sudden Death

Any Questions?

JB: What will Testeverde do first: lose a fumble, throw an interception, or throw a touchdown pass?

MD: Throw an interception. He'll have more of those than TD's this year.

---

MD: Jets over/under 6 wins?

JB: Over.

Week 3:

Touchdown

JB:
A win is a win. Stay with the running game. However, instead of giving Curtis Martin 31 carries to Blaylock's 2, how about 21 for Martin and 12 for Blaylock. The Jets will need Martin down the stretch.

The Giants could be very very good. They can be 9-0 going into their November 20 game against the Eagles.

Eli better than Peyton.

Field Goal

JB:
Forget the Lions. Harrington... going... going... going...

Are Viks fans happy that this is Culpepper's team?

Chargers will be 0-3 after this week.

Favre - it's going to be an ugly year.

What was Parcells doing monday night. First down at mid-field, second and four, why snap the ball before the two minute warning and throw a pass (which was incomplete). Third down, another pass (incomplete). So on fourth and four, Bledsoe finally throws a completion, but it's only for two yards when he needed four. Cowboys will not win with Bledsoe.

Overtime

Nobody special this week.

Fumble

The announcers on the Saints-Giants game. Example: Tiki runs right for five yards. Paul: "I tell you what, watch the ability of Tiki here, he takes the ball and runs five yards and gets tackled. He's the only one who can do that." These guys are the worst. I don't know if it's too many guys in the booth, but they say some of the dumbest things I've heard.

Interception

How about this baseball playoff race!

Sudden Death

Any Questions?

JB: Will the Giants win the NFC East?

MD: Yes.

---

MD: Are the Bengals for real?

JB: Yes, Palmer is the real deal.

Week 2:

Touchdown

JB: My worst football nightmare. I can't explain Pennington's performance, so I won't even try. There is no need to state the obvious of what we seen last Sunday. A very telling game this week against Miami, let's leave it at that for now.

Giants looked good. Keep in mind it was against Warner. The Giants are going to be good, real good, especially once Manning starts to play good. Brandon Jacobs, Tiki, the defense, all played great.

Field Goal

JB: Falcons look tough. Steelers running back Willie Parker - will he have a year like his quarterback had last year?

Overtime

Nobody special this week.

Fumble

FOX in New York. As the Saints are driving for the winning field goal they cut out for "contractual obliglations" to join the Giant game. However, instead of going right to the kickoff of the Giant/Cardinal game you first see a battery of commercials, then you get the announcers' view of the upcomming game. If you have to go to the Giant game or any other game by "contractual obligations," the first thing I want to see is the kicker running to the ball to kick off.

Interception

When you think of New York sports, do you think of Mark Messier?

Sudden Death

JB: Will Brandon Jacobs be a 1000 yard rusher this season?

MD: No, he won't get enough carries with Tiki in front of him.

JB: Who will through more interceptions this year: Warner, Collins, Culpepper, Pennington, Plummer, Matt Hasselbeck, or Favre?

MD: It'll be between Collins and Favre - I'll go with Collins.

JB: Will Eli throw for 300 yards against the Saints?

MD: No.

---

MD: Will Herman Edwards be the head coach of the New York Jets at the start of the 2006 season?

JB: He is already saying some dumb metaphors. If the Jets don't play better, and don't make the playoffs, he's done. So to answer your question right now based on last week's game, NO he will not be the head coach of the Jets at the start of the 2006 season.

MD: Amani Toomer over/under 30 receptions?

JB: Over.

MD: Who would you want as the starting QB of your team: P. Manning or Vick?

JB: I'm taking Vick.

Week 1:

Touchdown

JB: I'm not so concerned about Pennington throwing the long ball, which of course as a pro quarterback he can do, as I am of him just making things happen. 4th and 5 going for it, Chad drops back to pass, no one open runs, dives, gets the first down, Elway-like, is what I'm talking about. He needs to take control and lead this team to the next level. Make things happen.

The Jets should not abandon the running game too early in games. I was a big LaMont Jordan fan, but I don't think you're going to miss him with Derrick Blaylock stepping right in.

The defense is solid, very competent. Vilma is an all-pro. The secondary is going to be active. I like this guy Kerry Rhodes who I selected in my mock traft back in April. My one concern with the D-line is John Abraham. I was thinking the Jets should have traded him for a #1 (if they could have) because I don't want anyone on the team who is dissatisfied and may not play 100% all the time. If he has no ill feeling harbored I think he'll have another great year. (Stay healthy!). Prediction: 10-6 = wildcard.

As for the Giants, if Eli does not play or does not play well, the Giants have no shot. Hasselback looked terrible in the preseason. I like this guy Brandon Jacobs, and if used right with Tiki, the Giants should have a great running attack. The other offensive weapons should be fine. It's time for Shockey to step it up. I want 80 receptions out of him this year. The Giants defense I'm leery about. How good is Strahan going to be? A great year out of him would help tremendously. The linebackers and secondary are OK, but not dominating by any means. (Catch those INTs). Prediction 9-7 = wildcard.

Field Goal

JB: Playoff predictions:
AFC: Pats, Jets, Ravens, Colts, Jags, Broncos
NFC: Eagles, Giants, Vikings, Panthers, Falcons, Rams
Superbowl: Pats over Panthers
I wouldn't be totally suprised if the Cardinals make the playoffs.

MD: Playoff predictions:
AFC: Pats, Steelers, Colts, Broncos, Ravens, Jets
NFC: Eagles, Vikings, Panthers, Rams, Falcons, Giants
Superbowl: Pats over Eagles
I wouldn't be totally suprised if the Bengals make the playoffs.

Ravens 11 | 10 Steelers 9 | 8 Bengals 8 | 8 Browns 5 | 4
Colts 13 | 12 Jaguars 10 | 7 Texans 7 | 6 Titans 6 | 7

Fumble

Everything's great so far.

Interception

Rutgers: 6-5
Schiano DONE.

Sudden Death

JB: Will Warner lead the Cardinals to the playoffs?

MD: No.

JB: Strahan over/under 10 sacks?

MD: Slightly under.

JB: Will Pennington miss any games due to injury?

MD: Yes.

---

MD: Raiders over/under 30 points per game?

JB: Under.

MD: More TDs this year: Coles or S. Moss?

JB: Coles.

MD: Will this be the last you see of Bret Favre?

JB: I hope so. He's done.
